How to take part
The aim of this project is to help to help social workers reflect on their experiences of the pandemic and to make these visible for future generations
To take part in this project, please follow these 5 steps:
1. Choose and reflect on the four themes:
2. Take your photo in either portrait or landscape format to respond to your chosen themes. Photos can be taken on your phone, tablet, or digital camera as they do NOT have to be high resolution or an expert image.
3. Write a caption to accompany your photo. This should be a short narrative or description in fewer than 150 words explaining how the image you have taken responds to the chosen theme. Two examples are shown below.
-
I chose this photo’ because it depicts a discarded lateral flow test, a sight completely unfamiliar two years ago, which has now become so common.
The test in the photo’ is negative, meaning that whoever took the test is, at least temporarily, reprieved from the symptoms of the virus. However, the test also leaves unanswered questions about who took the test and in what circumstances.
This lack of context also captures so much of the uncertainty that the pandemic has brought and continues to bring. However, in the photo’ the test is discarded next to the new shoots of a spring bulb, offering renewed life and hope for the future.

My Nintendo switch is the most prominent memory of the pandemic for me.
It was through this that all my social interaction happened during lockdown. Me and my friends spent countless hours playing games together.
4. Check to make sure there are no people (including yourself) or identifiers in the photo or caption. This is necessary because the website will become an anonymised digital archive, but we will also examine everything carefully before uploading to maintain privacy and confidentiality. For the full information please refer to the Information for Participants sheet. A signed copy of the Information for Participants sheet and the Consent form should be emailed alongside your photo and short narrative.
5. Submit your photo to: d.turner@chi.ac.uk
